Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture has been around for thousands of years. Most of people in West think of acupuncture as for treating pain and depression only, but is that so?
There are so much more what TCM and acupuncture can do, but when comes to beauty, Cosmetic Acupuncture, or referred to as an “Acupuncture Facelift” is the emperors, queens and concubines’ dirty little secret to stay young and live longer behind the imperial palace doors.
From TCM perspective, meridians (energy channels) are the path for the Qi flow (life force) throughout the body internally to externally and vice versa. An easy way to explain it, think of highways, freeways, avenue, streets and roads that are all connected together, so we can travel anywhere we want. Those are similar to the meridians and the moving transportations, such as vehicle or your legs, are the Qi flow which take you to your final destinations, your organ and skin.
What happened when there is a heavy traffic stopping you to go anywhere you want inside your body? You will feel ill, pain, depressed, irritable, warm, dizziness, for example. Your skin will show signs of different types of acne, rosacea, wrinkles, eczema, hair loss, dark spots, dryness, you name it.
Take chronic rosacea or painful inflamed acnes for example, they are shown because there are other kinds of inflammation in your body or organ that need your attention. Facial wrinkles or someone who has the “11’s” between the eyebrows could be due to a habitual expression, stress, anger and depression.
Cosmetic Acupuncture is a noninvasive treatment by inserting the needles to the needed area to treat the skin problems and fight the aging process. It is an alternative to surgical facelifts, a procedure that removes or reshapes the skin on your face. Cosmetic Acupuncture is for people would like something more nature and painless and still improve your skin elasticity. It is more than just a surface beauty treatment; it is designed to help both the whole body and your skin feel and look better and younger.
Through a micro-wound waking up the natural healing process, acupuncturists insert 30-80 ultra-thin needles, depending on the condition, into the target area of the face. This healing process can help the body to product new tissue and tricks the brain to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. The sagging skin will result in a tighten and healthier look and wrinkles would start fading away. It will also reduce inflammation on your face by increasing blood flow and stimulates your immune response. People with jaw tension due to anxiety or TMJ, this procedure also work great by relaxing the muscle and calm anxiety. Each person responds differently due to their underline condition, history, lifestyle and diet. Results usually slower than invasive treatment such as facelift surgeries or Botox but last longer.
The difference between those type of treatments is one for superficial and temporary fix with quick results, usually between a day or two. Cosmetic Acupuncture is for treating the source and the “why” and bring out the better result on your skin, typically involves 10 sessions in a month. Both methods are great and depending on what your needs and what you are looking for at that time.
Cosmetic Acupuncture’s treatment method is using facial acupuncture points to treat the imbalance of physiological and psychological conditions that effect on your appearance. It is a full body treatment instead of target area. Not only that, acupuncture triggers and release certain chemical in your brain that promote physical and emotional well-being, according to the British Acupuncture Council.
